Indian Fox- Bengal Fox

The fox is a omnivore belonging to the dog family and is smaller than a wild dog. There are 37 species of foxes found in the wild across the world. The true foxes that belong to the vulpes genus and there are about 12 of them. The foxes in many cultures and mythology are associated with cunning, deceit and trickery. The fable of Fox and the Grapes is an example of this when rather than admitting defeat of not being able to reach for the grapes, the Fox calls it sour / unripe grapes. As you could see in this image foxes have vertical pupils much like cats while dogs have rounded pupils. Another interesting fact about fox is that it can retract its claws like a cat. Close

Indian Fox

The Bengal fox is seen here with a feed, a chicken. The fox has long pointy ears and a bushy tail. The fox as it was feeding allowed us pretty close and that meant that with a 500mm on a D500 it was a little too tight framing. To make the composition work I have not included a small part of the tail in the frame. Apart from birds fox feeds on rodents, reptiles, insects and fruits too. The Indian fox or the Bengal fox is endemic to the Indian subcontinent, it is classified as least concern as per IUCN. The diminishing habitat – grasslands and semi arid plains. This species avoids the forests and area where it is difficult to dig a den. Close
