Yellow eyed Babbler

A skulker of a bird that is seen in the bushes mostly. Once in a while it will pop up to the top of the bush and then dive back to join others in the group. This image was made at one such instance when we waited patiently in the grassland to see one emerge on top of the bush.

Zitting Cisticola

A tiny bird found in the grasslands and is fairly distributed. They mainly feed on insects and their breeding season is associated with the onset of the monsoon. There are about eighteen geographical races of Zitting Cisticola and the sexes look very similar. The species is classified as least concern as per IUCN.

Brahminy Kite Portrait

It was one of those days when we could approach this beautiful raptor up close and take some real close portraits. Just like black kite brahminy kite is also a scavenging bird feeding on dead fish and crabs by the rivers / lakes and ponds. This bird finds a place in the Hindu mythology as Garuda

The black-winged kite (Elanus caeruleus) is a small diurnal bird of prey in the family Accipitridae best known for its habit of hovering over open grasslands in the manner of the much smaller kestrels. This kite is distinctive, with long-wings, white, grey and black plumage and owl like forward-facing eyes with ruby red irises.These are classified as least concern by IUCN.
