TREETALKTREE TALK WITH WOODY THE TREE MAN

teekuHi Kids, I am Woody the tree man. Welcome to tree talk! Happy to see you and I appreciate your enthusiasm to know more about wildlife.  In Tree Talk, I am going to share the news on the plant world with more information on trees and other interesting facts.

As you know, we the trees are not only a part of wildlife, but we also play an important role in the life of every living being, directly or indirectly. From villages to cities you could see us everywhere and we are doing our part to cool our planet.

Last week, two old people were sitting under my shade and I anticipated to hear their conversation since it was about trees. “I remember my childhood days when this place was looked like a beautiful forest. I could not forget my ‘swing’ times on the branches of the big banyan tree here. Sadly, it is not here now” said one. “Yes!  With more trees, our childhood days were green and fresh. Pure air, lush greenery and breezy days were some of the luxuries we had. Now, we have to lose everything as a result of urbanization and deforestation,” said the other one. Do you agree with them?

Can you imagine a world without trees? Nope!

I talked with some children and was discussing these ideas. Everybody was enthusiastic about to know more on trees. So, I took a decision to meet you here and introduce some of my friends to you. Today, you are going to see my friend, the flame tree! See the following picture of my friend! How beautiful he is!

Flame Tree in full bloom!

Common Name : Flamboyant Tree / Flame Tree

Family : Fabaceae

Delonix Regia, the flame tree is considered as an ornamental tree. It is mainly found in tropical and sub tropical countries such as Egypt, India, Israel, Hawaii, Peru, etc., and the flowering seasons are different too. Originated in Madagascar, this tree is ruling all the tropical regions of the world now.

Not only the beauty, people could enjoy its shade too since it grows up to 10+ meter tall. There is a yellow flower variety also available in this tree family, but it is the rarest. This tree has many interesting names too. This beautiful tree is also known as Phoenix’s tail in Vietnam, Krishnachura in Bangladesh and Gulmuhar in India. It is commonly known as Royal Poinciana or Flamboyant tree in English. Lets have a closer look of its flower.

The flower of the Flamboyant tree has 5 petals in which 4 of them are in scarlet / red color and the fifth one has yellow shades on it. This tree has compound leaves and this feature also adds more beauty to this elegant tree. Seedlings are produced from seeds and cuttings. The pods are green in earlier stages and when they are fully grown they turned into hard brown pods. See the view of this gigantic tree under the sun!

You know, I have seen some kids making some crafts using the dried leaves, pods and seeds of this tree. One kid showed a bracelet made by the seeds  and another one made a beautiful painting using the dry leaves. He also made a dry leaf greeting card using the leaves. Have you ever tried any of those ideas?

OK, Kids, Its time to go. I will meet you next time with fantastic information about my friends. Share your thoughts and comments to team@digitalfrescos.com

Have a great time!
