The most commonly found species of this family are Red kangaroo, Eastern Grey Kangaroo, Western Grey Kangaroo and Antilopine Kangaroo. They are also commonly identified by their size. The small ones are commonly known as Wallabies or Wallaroos and the dwarf kind of this family weighs up to 1.5 kg only. Large ones are known as Kangaroos and they weigh up to 90 kg. Eastern Grey kangaroos have a highest population compared to other kinds.

Like elephants, the unique physical appearance of Kangaroos is an interesting one to watch. These hopping animals have very strong hind legs that have elastic tendons. This elasticity helps them to have a high hop and balanced landing that acts like a spring action. Tail is the most supportive part of Kangaroos and they use their tails for balancing while hopping and standing, and even for walking. Their strong hind legs and tail act like a tripod and support them to balance its body weight while hopping. Kangaroo is the only animal that uses the hopping action to move from one place to another. Some of the kangaroo species could hop even at a speed of 70km/h.

Kangaroos are marsupials that means that could carry their young ones in a pouch in their body. Young ones of kangaroos born at the very early stage and they live in the pouch of their mothers till they could survive in the outer world. Young one is called as Joey and they spend nearly 9 months in their mother’s pouch. The joey is fed by its mother for 18 months.
Fights of kangaroos are considered as a special behavior found in their groups. The boxing between the kangaroos could be seen when they face critical situations. Mostly, they fight to establish their dominance or right. When two kangaroos fight, they try to have a high standing posture of the opponent’s head and shoulders. Their kicks are extremely powerful and the kangaroo that wins will push the opponent down.

Domestic and wild dogs and foxes are their common enemies. Apart from that, they are hunted for their meat.
